Meeting Fun Match June 6, 2010
Meeting called to order at 1:10pm Our President Toni Yurkovic welcomed all of our guests. And she described to attendees what our club is all about. Our Westie Foundation representative Phyllis Vogt also spoke about the Foundation and what it is that they do. She also told us that their newsletter is going to be available on line in the near future. Toni also thanked our wonderful Chef Rich Schmalz & his assistant Tracey McCarriher for their hard work slaving over the hot grill and everyone that brought a covered dish. She thanked our Committee Co-Chair people, Karen Tarolli & Tina Chergi for all the hard work they put into our fun day. Meeting was adjourned at 1:22pm. Despite the horrible weather earlier in the morning, it was a fantastic day with great food and lots of fun things to do. We had 30 guests and 11 club members and their adorable westies attend our picnic and Fun Match. Phyllis was very happy to help a few of the attendees with their applications for membership. Not sure about how happy our westies were after we squeezed them into their “cutest summer outfits”, but they sure looked cute. Most Westies attempted the agility and conformation. The games made great 'ice breakers'.

Treasurer's Report was read. Motion to approve Rich and 2nd Tracey
Rescue Report:
Tina reported that rescue has been very busy lately. People contacting them to surrender their Westies. Currently, they are trying to get the potential adoptive parents to foster the dog first and then adopt.
Discussion was held on puppy mills. Karen suggested a letter writing campaign to local papers and to Gov. Rendell. People need to be educated on purchasing puppies. Maybe trying to do it through Facebook.
Membership for Linda Duncan was voted on. Motion to approve by Tracey and 2nd by Cathy. All in Favor
Picnic:
Karen & Tina are co-chairs
The tentative date is June 12, 2010 at White Oak Park. Rich will be the barbecue chef if he can get off of work. Discussion was held about getting more member & general public of westie owners to attend. We will be placing an add in the local papers inviting Westie owners to attend the event. Perhaps having a dog walk?
Meet the Breed:
Rich and Toni are going to spearhead this event. To be held at the Keystone K9 Obedience club. No date was decided upon (after the auction), but tentative April timed is noon to 4pm. Rich asked that we notify other breed clubs of the event, they might be interested in attending and fulfilling their obligations to the AKC. Maybe they would even make a contribution to the rental of the building for the day. Once the date is set, an ad will be placed in the local paper. Also brought up during this discussion the possibility of having a bake sale at this event to raise money for the club. Also perhaps selling beverages.
Auction:
Cathy is chairing the event. The date is April 11th, at 1pm at the Whithall Boro Building. She has sent out some letters to venders and circulated a form for the attendees of the meeting to complete with what items for the auction they are bringing and what snacks as well. Karen has volunteered to be in charge of the food table.

Clare makes a Rally achievement !!!! She finishes her Rally Novice title on Sept. 25 and moves Russell up to Advanced on the 26th. A very apprehensive Clare, who has never taken Russell off leash, gets an 81 and her first Rally advance leg. Russell obviously loves his mom, because he had no intentions of leaving his mom's side. Congratulations Clare and Russell, we are proud of you!!!!

On a beautiful sunny morning in Carlisle, Pa. a big buck with a nice rack on his head crossed our field. I lined up the two flags, put the harness on Grace, whispered into her ear, " we dedicate this track to the memory of Mom and Dad." She turned around and looked at me and said "You Betcha" in her tail wagging kind of way.
An-Van's Road to Glory (Grace) started her track sunday at 8:50am, and after several distractions, and getting sucked into some large tire ruts in the field, having a staredown with the gallery, and not being able to locate the last turn because the cattails where calling her. Miss Grace found her glove at 9:32. My Tracking Dog!!
